Set on 4,000 acres in the heart of the New England district, Waterloo Station is both a luxury farm stay and immersive historic experience, with a range of heritage accommodation options.

History

Waterloo Station was first discovered in 1837 by Alexander Campbell, and was settled by the McIntyres of the Hunter Valley. It became renowned as a significant pastoral property spanning grazing land along Waterloo Creek. The station’s grand homestead, completed in 1908 for the Sinclair family and designed by Sydney architects Ross & Rowe, is an outstanding example of Arts and Crafts architecture in rural Australia. Built using local materials and craftsmanship, the residence reflects both the prosperity of the station and the Sinclair family’s deep connection to the surrounding landscape and pastoral heritage.

Over nearly two centuries, Waterloo Station has had remarkably few custodians, each contributing to the property’s ongoing legacy. Since acquiring the station in 1997, Don and Deborah Anderson have undertaken extensive restoration and conservation works to preserve the historic homestead and surrounding buildings. Their efforts have revitalised the property while maintaining its historic character, ensuring Waterloo Station continues to be enjoyed as an important part of Australia’s farming and built heritage.
